This is the closest thing I could find for a lightning simulator for my halloween display. It came with a CD but I just plugged in my tablet via the 3.5 mm input jack. Honestly, anything will work to get lights to flash. Music, videos, or thunder will look the same. I tried this with color changing LED lamps, so it might flash a little different with a different type of light. Oh, and the lamp connects with a 2 or 3 prong Type A or B socket plug, just like an outlet. Not sure. It doesn't have a nice really quick flash like I was hoping, but it looks cool with a red or blue light flashing on a graveyard scene. This is exactly what I was looking for! Other lights and effects are usually just strobes. This one is truly a Perfect Storm.It activates the lighting you attach as it reacts to sound from a provided CD that you aux into it. The resulting thunder and lightning effects are AWESOME! I attached a video from Halloween. I love this thing! (See video)Also, although the CD that comes with it has some great thunder sound effects, it has some significant time lag between effects. I wanted something with less time between. I found a sound effect track on YouTube that I like better - search for "Intense Thunderstorm Sounds | NO RAIN | loud clap of thunder & impressive lightning on a dark night". Perfect for my Halloween needs!

I was a little disappointed when I realized the unit itself did not provide the sound or light (have to use other sources) but after hooking up 2 spotlights and a speaker nearby, it’s a very cool effect and I’m 100% happy with the results it provides.

Now this is NOT a criticism because it’s not really a fault but because I live in the U.K., this requires a step down transformer to make it work. Having said that, it does exactly what it says it will. The sound effects are on a cd so for me, I don’t have a cd player and I needed an mp3 so it really could do with a download too. That really is my only gripe. If you’re in the US and have a computer with a cd drive, you’ll be fine.

Although I didn't get to use it for Halloween this year, I set it up and it worked perfectly! I ripped the CD onto my computer, and the thunder sound effects are pretty realistic! I used a blue LED flood light to look like natural lightning.I will be using it for next year on Halloween for my cemetery scene, although with the lame curfew hours nowadays, (trick or treating starting at 5:30 before it's even dark for over an hour!! 🤬) It won't show up until about 7:00 7:30 at night. This Gen X mama is fed up with these dumb rules nowadays. Totally ruins Halloween.But I digress. This is an amazing addition to any Halloween yard haunt!!

Love this machine! I use it in my Halloween display and even playing in the house with my grandkids during quarantine! We had an indoor campsite and along came our fake though fun thunder and lightning storm! Hey when kids are down and count on having fun with their grandparents we have to get creative! I highly recommend this for anyone that wants to add a good effect to their haunt without spending tons of money (this adds a good bang for the buck!) Or if you find yourself loving a good old thunder and lightning storm this is THE thing you need! We are now building little storm clouds with led lights to suspend from the ceiling (thank goodness for this machine and command hooks) for the kids to enjoy as a bedtime calming experience...we certainly will use this year round now!

Perfect Storm 2.0 works like a charm and as advertised. I didn't listen to the audio samples on the included CD but I did do my homework up front to ensure that my lights didn't exceed 1,000 watts. The build in microphone was perfect outside only about 6 inches from the bluetooth speaker. I connected the speaker to my iphone and drove the effects sound over Bluetooth. I did not purchase a 3.5mm audio cable to test out. I searched itunes for various tracks to test out and the best one that worked for me was "Heavenly Weather (Thunderstorm Sounds) 2017 - Track 5 - Thunder and Lightning". I let the track play through and kept adjusting the sensitivity knob to get the right amount of lightning flash vs. rain. It worked like a charm and I got so many compliments from both the trick-or-treaters

This thing is awesome! It is very simple and worked just as I would expect. I was a little concerned that it would not be the 2.0 version that has the 3.5mm audio input as the description does not specify, but sure enough it was the 2.0. It worked great with the audio cable (not supplied) with both my phone and laptop. Also used the microphone with PC speakers and worked just as well. The sensitivity knob is great and allows you to set how strongly the light responds to whatever sounds you are playing. For example, I could set it so the light was almost always on at one end of the spectrum and almost never on the other.
