Update:Finally broke 1 month after posting my review. The machine turns on, but won't grind, and won't brew. Very unhappy that they would not send me a replacement when I first contacted them three months after purchasing it.I have used this same brand of coffee maker for at least 15 years. I usually get about 3 years out of them and then have to replace them.My last one failed (stopped working altogether even though it had power), so I tried buying a replacement through Amazon resale that were listed as "like new". Since they were a good price relative to new, I ordered two, one to keep as a replacement. The first one I opened was clearly used and rusted inside (I don't blame Capresso for that). The second one didn't work properly, so I returned that as well. Ended up buying a new one. …

The coffee institute says that coffee should be brewed at between 195 and as close to 205 degrees F as possible, but not at boiling (212). One reviewer notes that his coffee was not hot, and that customer service advised him that in order to get maximum heat you had to brew the full ten cups. Our coffee has been lacking in flavor, and I decided to check the brew temperatures. I put ten cups of water into the reservoir, and started to brew (no coffee in the basket). The first six ounces filled the basket at 156 degrees. That was emptied, brewing continued, and the second batch went up a few degrees. Like so many others, I was looking to replace my (sadly) retired Melitta Mill & Brew that finally gave up the ghost after 9 years of deeply satisfying brewing. I hunted for weeks, reading reviews and cautiously examining the specs on any grind-and-brew coffeemaker under the $400 price point. Prior to first use you are supposed to run 8 cups of water through the machine without grounds or beans, and the filter, filter basket, and carafe in place. I owned the predecessor to this model with the swing out basket. Prior to that unit, I used a Cuisinart that had a nice 12 cup capacity but suffered from a design which had the steam from coffee brewing going directly into the chamber where the coffee grounds came out which usually led to a mucky mess and a frequent need for clean up. The Capresso design, with its swing out basket, corrected this problem and made great coffee. We used that machine daily for about five years and then it finally gave up and would not heat the water anymore. INTRO. My wife and I like good coffee, but are novices at making it. We used to get our fix from Duncan Donuts or McDonalds (Starbucks is good but not worth the price premium). Not anymore.With this machine, we've learned to make coffee to our liking at home. Not only have we saved time and money in the morning, but we no longer have to roll the dice on freshness and quality every day. I'm writing from the perspective of someone who has owned more grind&brew coffeemakers than the typical coffee addict. This one is as good a grind&brew machine as anyone makes.First, the negatives:- It is definitely loud and long in grinding, as other owners mention. The burr grinding process is wonderfully consistent compared to blade grinding, but it seems to take forever and the noise is enough to wake up the... sleeping.- It doesn't have a way to dump out the unusued coffee beans if you want to change blends to another bean (though you can still put pre-ground coffee in the basket while there are beans waiting to be ground.)- The carafe does tend to make a sort of "cracking" sound when it sits on the hotplate sometimes.I have owned some of the most popular, and some unusual, grind & b
