I highly encourage all of you to learn more about the artists on this soundtrack. For those of you not familiar with their music, I assure you that you will be thrilled to discover their sounds. Explore, enjoy and above all, spread the word! Shiro Gutzie ~ Soundtrack Producer From the Artist I spend a lot of time in my room listening to music. I would even go so far as to say that I am a music nerd. I usually write to music and I’ve spent a lot of the past ten or so years going to small rock clubs in New York City like the Knitting Factory, the Bowery Ballroom, and the Mercury Lounge, where I discovered many of the artists featured on this soundtrack. While I was cutting the film, I was musically drawn to artists who convey a sense of melancholy, isolation, thoughtfulness, and personal reflection. Singer-songwriters like Bill Callahan of (Smog), Steve Salett of The King of France, Jim James of My Morning Jacket, Dawn Landes, and Goldcard are artists who have inspired me for a long time. I saw the band Low perform for the first time at the Knitting Factory in the mid-Nineties and I had never witnessed a trio with such minimal instrumentation render a room of New York Indie rock elitists utterly silent. Azure Ray’s ethereal harmonies combine angelic beauty with a narcotic, crushing tide. Dawn Landes’ raw, haunting simplicity will hunt you down like a she-wolf. Her "You Alone" has an ache in it that will stay with you for a long time. And then there is the hooky guitar and chorus in Goldcard’s "Didn‘t Feel a Thing" that my Editor Meg Reticker and I temped into early cuts of the film and simply couldn’t get rid of. Smog’s confessional "Guiding Light" perfectly captures the films darker tone, whereas The Kingsbury Manx’s groove "De-Da-Dementia" helps support what I hope comes across as the lighter, quirkier side. Bottomside is the first band I played in, and I offer "Affliction" and "Steve and Bill and Tom" as my own little contribution to music that is made in one’s bedroom. I feel fortunate to have these amazing musical artists on the soundtrack of my first film. I have no doubt that this collection of songs stands firmly on its own, and I hope you will enjoy many hours of listening pleasure. Adam Rapp ~ Director
